The fun is in the journey. I take my combat one zone at a time and enjoy it as much as possible. When I’m too tired from work I prefer to watch a movie or read a book while I mindlessly click on a node in the village to gather or do a bit of crafting refined mats. If I need gear I try to make time on a weekend to work on it. I’ve played since the game started and I’m not in any rush to “get to the end” so I just enjoy what I can do with the time I get to play. I’ve seen enough changes over the years to both combat and gathering/ crafting to be happy with how it works now.
I have several characters spread out on several servers so the variety keeps me interested and amused. This game is my happy place so I’m never in a big hurry to get to the end.

Conversely, I think that too easy an approach will make users get tired of games faster. I've seen a lot of users complain that they have nothing to do in other games.
Of course, collection and production are cumbersome. But I think it's very attractive to work hard in the game and get something.
Rather, when the production stage reaches a certain level, I think the move toward giving avatars special abilities will further revive the characteristics of the game.
If there's nothing to do consistently in the RPG game, that's it.
Of course, I'm not a heavy user who can say this, but...
I mean, it's just... it's just...

if i wanted to craft my gear then i have to spend an outrageous amount of mats crafting the same items 30 times each which in its self is just senseless why on earth in any game would you want to craft the same piece of armor 30 times...
V&H is not unique in this. Most MMOs have you use ridiculous quantities of materials to get refined materials and then use a truckload of those to craft an item. Part of that is to limit advancement rate, part is to allow some granularity in how much material is needed for a range of items and part of that is because it's more fulfilling for players to gather a giant stack of items than a handful even if a handful would make more sense. This is a game and not reality.

The long and short of it is that while you are willing to put in the time to level your combat skill you are not willing to do so for crafting and thus you won't be advancing as fast.

I'm just gonna be the kid everyone hates here and say, both leveling combat and crafting can be a total slug trailing, butt numbing experience. I have fought 40-50 bounties at lv 27 and still not leveled, and there are days when a good dude has 2 hour crafting parties, and despite crafting the whole time, I don't gain 1 single crafting level. So in conclusion both things suck, and maybe I suck too, but I still like the game.......back to your regularly scheduled discussion, thank you.
That definitely sounds like you are going about things very inefficiently. You should be able to do better than that. Killing the same bounty more than once a day gets you a vastly reduced amount of XP. You also only get a limited amount of Rested bonus for killing bounties. At that level, the quests give as much or more XP.

well the crafting system would be much better if after waisting all that time gathering those mats you need to craft an item with you had some control over what item you were crafting as of now you could blow a bunch of mats crafting numerous amounts of the same item and end just being a big waste because you still didnt get an item you could use stat wise the random item is a bunch of crap. and the biggest problem i have with gathering is having to actually sit there and click it every minute that time should be extended and it also need to have an option for auto pick up repair globs for those who who get busy doing other things while waiting for that minute to lapse. as of now you cant actually go do other things while doing gathering unless you want to have to go repair your tools because you missed out on the repair globs. So maybe making the repair globs auto lootable or make it an option you can enable if you want it. Another possible idea for a better gathering and crafting option is have mobs drop crafting mats other than stupid pelts as of now you have to sit at a node like a knot on a log all day long clicking every minute to get mats most other mmos that have crafting make it so you can get or have to get some crafting items from mobs, in this game all you get is pelts.

The whole purpose of having the repair globules is to prevent bots being used to simply gather all day, every day. Making them auto gather would completely defeat the purpose of having them in the first place.

On the rng nature of crafting I totally agree with you.

Wait until you get to lvl 95 crafting 😄 and watch months of blight mote gathering poof in cpl minutes. And having no control over stats..

that’s depressing. Games are supposed to be fun, but the crafting at those high levels doesn’t sound fun.

It is kind of annoying. I just plan to craft 40ish items and stop when I get what I want. Not sure what to do there as different folks are going to want different configurations. We don't really want 10 or 20 different recipes for all the variations someone might want. Perhaps a serious rewrite of crafting where it used additional components to determine what glyphs/runes/thingies the item ended up with.

They do. It's called loot drops and you can salvage most gear that drops. It's annoying that you can't salvage jewelry, trinkets, spellbook, etc. as there is no reason not to get ingots or timber or something from them. That should change/

So, a lot like combat where you just sit there waiting on countdown timers to run out so you can click again. ;)

True, other MMOs do have more variety to the craftable materials that drop from monsters but its pretty uncommon to actually get significant quantities of those materials as that would defeat the purpose of gathering.

The game used to have monster parts (claws fangs etc) which dropped from mobs and which were used in crafting.

The forums were full of complaints from players that it took far too long killing mobs to get the parts you wanted.

They were removed in the Wellspring patch (I think it's was wellspring anyway).

exactly my point at that point its no longer a fun game it more like a depressing job
