I think the problem with that is not everyone is at lvl 95 so they can’t participate in the 95 elder fight. Shoot there’s been players here for awhile and they’ve barely made 90. Then you have a dungeon that lower lvl players barely survive so really they’re left with questing/gathering and crafting. Of course they don’t realize the game gets harder and more in depth the higher up you go but still. I think this is one of the reasons it’s brought up. The lack of things to do that doesn’t seem repetitive yes we have events but those are not every month. Anyways that’s just my opinion and observations

All that we have without itSince you ask ...
Even if pvp is "optional" and I am therefore able to avoid the pvp itself, it is impossible to avoid the consequences of pvp - arguments and drama in chat, constant "balancing" of classes leading to nerfs of talents, feats or gear, the resulting reduction in dev time spent on pve elements, and a reduction in the friendly community atmosphere of the game.

Perhaps Otters could change lower level elders to follow this design. Maybe add elders at levels multiples of 5 with this organization. What about making these zones more challenging by leveling toons Down to that level, rather than leveling Up. I feel sure it is something they would consider since so many enjoy the event zones and dungeon runs.
True not everyone is Lv 95 which speaks directly to my concerns. If a players want PvP before they understand the mechanics, traits, talent set and gear it is just a fight and does nothing to exhibit strength or ability based the way this game was developed. I am a healing priest. I was not good at all when I was at the lower levels but with a deeper understanding of my play style over time I have improved my skills.
I fail to see how grabbing a weapon and heading to a PvP arena the day you start to play the game would prove your strengths, weakness or superiority in combat based on the game design. Personally I tire of players who have just entered Summer Hollow and after saying "hello" in world chat ask if there is PvP in the game. This is tell-tell to me their primary reason to play the game is PvP. Obviously they are not playing for the same experiences I am. I almost want to block those players. I don't block them though because I want them to have a chance to enjoy playing a game that does not have PvP.
As far as only having village skills left because there is no PvP I would suggest venturing outside the village and engage in combat with the environment. You can defeat the environment 24/7/365. If you feel the environment is not challenging enough go to a higher level zone. You do not have to open the zones that are level locked, require medallions or main quest. Just skip Traven/Depths. Run through the open zones and go directly to Sapphira Lament. The zones from Sapphira Lament to Upper Keep through the middle section of Pyrron dungeons are not restricted by the main quest or medallions. or keys.
I actually unintentional did exactly that. My combat leveled so fast on one character she was Lv 75 and did not have any crafted gear, any shadow zones open nor started the main quest. You will not receive full credit but that doesn't seem to be anything PvP seekers are concerned about. If you haven't tried running 10-15 levels higher than your combat level you should try it. It is challenging and will certainly test your skills.
Maybe a few more zones not level locked, require the main quest or medallions/keys should be added if challenging combat is your primary interest.
Actually the long time players feel the game has been "dumb-downed" to appease players who do not want to develop village skills. It is entirely possible to reach max level using looted gear without setting foot in a village, crafting or interacting with the other players or spending 1 penny or reality currency.
What I truly do not understand is why people feel defeating the environment does not meet those needs of those who want PvP. Everything in the environment is designed to kill you. Defeating the environment shows superiority and you cannot advance in the game unless you improve your skills.

Make a PVP Arena. When you enter, you claim one of the predefined champions - your gear, class and abilities match those of the champion you select for the duration of the match. Optional: maybe allow players to select only champions of the matching class (i.e. fighters may select fighter champions etc). Rewards should be useful but not game-changing: utility items, maybe some sweet little prizes (sockets, crowns etc).
Pros: PVP is skill-based, not gear/level-based.
Devs will have easier time to balance classes in PVP without affecting the main gameplay. Players tend to be very upset when nerf bat hits their own classes or abilities. Champion-based PVP will require to adjust champions only.
Cons: can't see any. Another mode of gameplay - more reasons to log in more frequently.

Agreed... Iv seen that plenty of times. Now I’m not talking about the new players that start game and yell “where’s pvp” honestly idk why anyone would want to hop on a new game and immediately jump into pvp. That just seems disastrous in my opinion. I personally have no desire to wack someone in game. Thats why I suggested a more team verse team going against the environment. It gives a competitive edge. You go against other players but your not fighting those players your just trying to beat them on a run. (Whatever it may be) It seems that there are a few players who have been around awhile that wouldn’t mind pvp.. I’m not suggesting this for new players but for the players who have been around and want it. Obviously they’re still here so they’re happy with the game. I hardly doubt the devs would put in that much work for something that might not work (and have to reverse it) or be negative towards the community. But if they are thinking along the lines of adding something like pvp having teams go against each in a dungeon type run would probably work best in my opinion they just have to figure out how to come up with leader boards, design new type of dungy, landscape, environment where teams could compete. . Again not exactly pvp but it might pacify the “need” for pvp. Again I agree with you... I just think people are looking for ways to be competitive with they’re peers. And there’s loads of ways to do that that do not involve pvpPerhaps Otters could change lower level elders to follow this design. Maybe add elders at levels multiples of 5 with this organization. That probably the one way to go if PvP gonna be introduced to the games. Instead of premade champion, I think a blank slate champion is better first we choose the class then we're given limited resources like 5 rune slots, 50 talent points, 40k stats points, that the players can freely distribute, so player can also do some experimentation like which built is the best. We get free slate champion every time we enter the arena but we can also save some built that we have made.

Yes, this idea of a champion "template" is great and it will keep the min-max crowd happy and occupied trying out different builds and whatnot.
I personally like pvp in some games, if its in a specific area and has its own chat channel. I believe it was mentioned years ago that more chat channels were not able to be added. Unless there is a new server added specifically for it, I can't see it ever happening. Anything can happen tho.

I just can't support PVP in the game that would appease the Lv 1 player who on the first chat into world is "does this game have PVP?"
The only way I can see supporting any type of PVP would require players to use PVP gear crafted exclusively for PVP and limited to an arena which would have access after defeating Lord Pyrrus. Any rewards offered should be restricted to PVP play only. Even if these conditions were implemented I still feel the atmosphere of the game would change but at least with these restriction it would be offered as an option for established players.
Ultimately inclusion of PVP would be based on what Otters feel would have the best outcomes for long term success of the game regardless of my position (as rightly as they should). To this end the questions of inclusion of PVP in the game is a moot point. I have my opinion and am happy to agree to disagree with those who support PVP inclusion.

Hey I am sure this has been posted many times here, maybe not. I understand from what I've seen a high % of players are Children (5-14 years old) and Adults (30+) and PVP is something that doesn't appeal this audience and it would probably cause some of them to stop playing. Then why not propose to have at least optional PVP in Villagers & Heroes to those fond of of it. It would be cool to see your grinding efforts work in a battle against other players, a test of skills. I am sure this addition will add more players as well. After all, its just an optional thing. What sort of pvp? i'd leave that for discussion! And I meant no disrespect or offense to the people I pointed.
Thank you.

I would love it too but only in a separate zone or in arena, entirely with specific gear for pvp. Game will remain the same with the exception of a zone for players wanting to add a bit of spice sometimes. It would add huge potential for an end game too. Arena could be by team only... Only team chat could work in arenas so no problem of bad language would occur.
I am not sure to understand why people would leave. Game would be the same outside of pvp zone & nice atmosphere can remain with proper moderators or chat option. Gear for pvp would need to be obtained in a way that does not disrupt pve. Why not?

To OP, have you ever tried to google good mmo game with no pvp? The top answer will be the best pvp games. I would rather have a competitive event like a big boss that would need several players to kill and the one that did the bigger damage would be awarded with some special reward. Lots of games out there with awesome graphics, awesome game mechanics and same defect, pvp, some of them with no pve at all.

Is it me or the no-pvp crowd indeed seems more aggressive in their arguments?
Open-world PVP game is insanely hard to make and balance, everyone will become upset at one point... at multiple points actually.
But PVP as a separate arena or game mode that does not influence the rest of the game world or item balance - that can really be fun.

Passionate... yes, aggressive... I don't think it goes that far.Is it me or the no-pvp crowd indeed seems more aggressive in their arguments?
We do try to allow everyone their say on subjects, while also trying to keep it all civil. As long as people do not break TOS or policy, we try to let you all speak your mind.
I would say PVE players are assertive more then aggressive but I would argue the PVP supporters are more aggressive.
When the frequent new thread ask "Why no PVP?" or "What are reasons to oppose PVP?" PVE supporters simply respond.

In other game I used to play, players can craft what is called there legendary gear / weapon, but to do so, an item is required from pvp zone, when I asked if devs could change that to either give a substitute for the item or make it lootable from pve bosses, the response I got from pvp comunity was way more agressive than here, I see here people are more civil and the lack of a non pvp game that is worth playing make pve comunity more protective.
This game was ment to be pve only, classes are not balanced and players here want it to be like it is.
I do not want to chase ppl away from it but, if you want pvp in a game, you chosen the wrong one to play.

Again, as it stands now the classes and their available gear are not pvp friendly. Only Mad Otter can decide if, when or how they might add some pvp element. So these game suggestion are a good way of letting them know how we feel.
As always, please keep all replies friendly, polite and on topic, do not make replies to the poster, but to the topic. Thank you.

The internet is awash with MMO's and the vast majority of them feature some form of PvP play. There is no shortage of places to scratch the PvP itch. I happen to enjoy some of them, which is why I play more than one game. In fact, there are quite a few of us that do just that. For some, myself included, V&H is their primary game, but they play others for the sake of a little variety. For others, V&H is their second game. There is something out there that they like a little more, but there is a reason they choose to play this game as well. Could it be that they find V&H to be a somewhat unique and entertaining game?
In a crowded market with no end of variety, an indie game like V&H has to be unique in order to survive. I feel the PvE style of V&H is one of the things that set it apart from the pack and is the primary reason this game has a higher percentage of female players than the majority of its competitors. I feel that there is room in the game for some form of competitive play, but it needs to mesh with the games' current structure. For that reason, I don't feel one-one-one PvP would be a good fit, but I'm open to exploring other options.
