I am playing the game on Linux, Fedora Workstation (had anti cheat issues before with other games, because of not using Windows). I left windows back in 2007 and I quit Star Wars The Old Republic after being active for 5y+ because of I did not want to switch to Win, hence my option between must you windows to play the game is I quit the game and find another one. Since this is Indie game I am sure Linux usage will not be a problem. Alex

Thanks for moving the post IrishElf, game works perfectly for now. I kinda did a "hack" installed the base steam version and copied and replaced all the files that I downloaded with the regular installer from the website. Works on Linux Mint 19.3 and Fedora Workstation 31. Alex

Well basically I used all the "pre setup from steam" with the original game files from the client from the webpage, their is some account limitation with using the game on mobile if I use the steam version as far as I understood, like this it works on phone and PC. thanks great game Glad I joined it. This is a very interesting option, the only problem you might run into is Steam game clients are also being auto-updated via Steam, so someday it might just stop working. Hopefully you'll be able to replace the files once again. Thanks for moving the post IrishElf, game works perfectly for now. Thanks for the concern but I disabled the auto-update option years ago on steam and the installs on linux work different then windows. This is a very interesting option, the only problem you might run into is Steam game clients are also being auto-updated via Steam, so someday it might just stop working. This is a detailed info for Manjaro (Arch based linux) how to run windows games in Linux (works 100% for Debian/Ubuntu, Fedora/RedHat and Arch Based distro's), basically the same for Linux Mint 19.3 and Fedora (after steam is installed). https://forum.manjaro.org/t/dota-2-crashes/102430/4
Just Install steam enable proton and check the website for https://www.protondb.com best advice on proton config for the game from other users.
Well I work as Data Scientist and before as software engineer and system admin I can handle PCs quite well I am in Linux for about 10+ years.
I use ZFS (bsd os partition) partition for steam and it allows me to lock files and lots of other stuff and the advantage of using steam os with proton to playgames is I can literally have as much different number of instances as I like, with different drivers for each game different file systems and in case system is broken (virus or whatever malware exits on Microsoft world this days) just restore backup via rsync. Linux takes a lot of time to learn much more then Microsoft 10 or 11 and MacOS, but once you learn it you can do what ever you like its your OS you control it all.
I use same lutris or steam config for the game +download original files for many games for years no issues, except for occasional bans due to not using windows like from EA for star wars, but I email support and tell them I can spend my money on another game usually fixed the issue
I left Windows world back before around Vista Win 7 10+ years ago and never going back to it for any reason or any software or game.

well that is true I am not alone, about 60,000 game reports are submitted to protondb https://www.protondb.com for about 10,000 games, number of users is not posted but this is just for about 12-15 months since protondb went out of beta, that means about 160 reports per day and 6 reports per hour. my personal motto about Linux vs Windows is, I would quit the game (have done it few times) if I cannot run it on Linux, but never going back to windows. Linux Community is a lot like this great V&H community here, open minded, doing it for fun and helping each other as much as we can.

True words. Thank you!
And I'll try your suggestion, might need some time though. Right now it's on top 3 of my ToDo-list (after reorganizing my office and building two new casual and gaming desktop-pc).

I stumbled upon this thread while on the hunt for similar info. I know it's an old one, but hey, sometimes old threads hold hidden gems, right?
It seems like there might be some issues with missing or outdated libraries like ntlm_auth and libasound_module_conf_pulse.so. Make sure to check your system's winbind package and try updating it.
Regarding the sound, you mentioned ALSA has always failed, so you might want to look into your audio settings and check if everything is configured correctly.
I've been on Linux for a while now, and I've come to love the community spirit. People are always willing to help out and share their knowledge. Also, if you're looking for some extra tips, I suggest you chek out the windows 10 product key Reddit sub. There are many Linux experts too.
