Crafting is an integral part of the game, one of the main sources for gear, and the main source for consumables. The goal of this suggestion is to eliminate the problematic parts of the current system (mainly RNG, stat restrictions) and further expand the current iteration on it with a very lengthy end game activity (that you can do at any level technically) with unique rewards.

Universal changes
  • RNG can be now be limited. Mastery will let you select how many and what stats you want on your gear while also increasing the chance to recieve them. Stat runes are unaffected by this, they'll remain the same as before.

Gear Mastery0 Star1 Star2 Star3 Star4 Star5 Star
Selectable Stats011234
Chance to recieve choosen Stats0%10%20%30%40%50%
  • So at 5 star mastery, you will have 50% chance to craft an item with your desired stats. This can be further enhanced with crafting specialization (+25%) and a new enchantment (+15%, check at Frederich and Yorick’s Favor), making it a total 90%.
  • Crafting specializations will work a bit different. Potion and Prep master stays the same. Armor/Weapon specialization will have 30% per craft to make it Epic rarity at 5 stars. They also receive +25% RNG limitation for their items in their specialization. Production Master is reworked. Production Master now grants +25% Crafting XP and +15% Mote reduction to themselves and everyone around them (in 30m). This is a permanent effect, ideal for those who want to support their fellow crafters.
Point of these changes is to streamline and make crafting a lot more impactful. The odds of crafting garbage gear will be a lot lower, especially with the right specialization. You’ll rely less on RNG crafts and drops (but there will still be some RNG for those who actually like that). And some would ask what is the point of looted gear if you can just craft your desired gear for yourself. There are still lot of items that you can’t craft (jewelry, class token, feats etc.), so looted gear won’t be obsolete. Also if you don't have a certain specialization (and don't want to rely on someone else or jsut don't want craft at all) dropped gear will be your main source for epic/legendary gear.

Crafting Endgame
Reaching max mastery (5 stars) with more and more pieces of gear, will grant you Favors, and ultimately will allow you to craft Celestial Gear.

Frederich and Yorick’s Favor
The legendary crafters will grant Favors to all who can 5 star a recipe or complete daily crafting quests. Favors will be used to purchase unique enchantments and items. Some ideas:
  • Swift hands (enchantment): Further reduce the crafting time of items by 0,2 seconds.
  • Talented Craftsmen (enchantment): Allows you to unlock a 2nd crafting specialization.
  • Focused Worker (enchantment): Further increases the chance that an item will be crafted with the desired stats by 15%.
  • Salvage Expert (enchantment): Chance to get rare components back increased by 30%.
  • Multistation (item): Summons a unique crafting station that allows you to craft from all your 4 skills.
  • Otter Pie (item): Summon a giant Otter Pie that players can interact with, receiving +50% XP to villaging/combat for 30 minutes. Can be used once a day. No otters were harmed in the making of this pie.
  • Fabled Scroll (item): Allows you to modify an item into a fabled variant.
  • Complete Mastery (enchantment): Allows you to begin the quest to craft the coveted celestial gear. You need to have 5 starred every single standard recipes to be able to purchase this.
These will be available to be purchased in any order. Some will be cheaper, some will be more expensive, but ultimately you should be able to get all. Crafting dailies will require you to hand in certain pieces of gear and will award some Favor for it.

Celestial Gear
Celestial Gear is a unique piece of equipment, that becomes available to be crafted upon getting Complete Mastery and finishing the quest „In the footsteps of the elders” (which will reward the player with all the celestial recipes). Celestial gear has the following properties:
  • Level scaling, meaning it will always level up with you. Not only the gear itself but the runes inside them too.
  • Freshly crafted Celestial gear is hollow. You will need to use a special Celestial altar to give it stats and runes (it is 100% guaranteed, no RNG involved). You can return to the Celestial altar anytime to change its stats/runes.
  • It will have the same power level and amount of stats as a legendary item at its level (so strictly speaking it won’t be more powerful if you manage to craft/loot a legendary item).
  • Account bound, making it great for your main but also your alts.
  • Crafting a piece will require 1000 pieces of all tiers of metal bars/cloths/leathers (depending on the piece you want to craft) and also a celestial component (buckle/hobnails/threads/helm claps) that will require 250 pieces of all tiers of metal bars/cloths/leathers (depending on the component you want to craft), and 500g (can be reduced with enchantments and consumables). Example: Celestial Fury Breastplate: 1k of all metal bars + 1 celestial belt buckle (250 of all metal bars) + 500g.
  • Crafting specializations will have no effect on it. Celestial gear is meant for all those who are willing to put in the work regardless of their choosen specialisation.
  • Armor/Weapons can be crafted in Celestial rarity (Carvings are not included)
  • Celestial gear will come with a unique look.

Frederich and Yorick’s Favor are nice bonuses for villagers (and heroes), that should offer incentives for people to do more crafting, while also making crafting a more enjoyable and productive aspect. Gathering and selling raw materials should become quite a bit more lucrative, which should promote trading more. Celestial gear is for those who really put in an insane amount of effort, and will offer a convinience upgrade over other gear as it won’t be more powerful than legendary. Celestial gear won’t be mandatory for anything, it is just a sweet bonus for the really dedicated.

Summary
I think these changes would improve the crafting and villager part of the game by quite a bit, while also not being too difficult to implement as they all build upon already existing systems. It would also offer short (Favors) and long term (Celestial Gear) goals for all crafting players, and potentially get more people into crafting with the reduction of RNG, stat limitation removed, and offering new unique enchantments and items through mastery.

Necroing this one. Tidied it up a bit, also changed some parts of it. Glad to see some of it were added (like carvings no longer soulbound or being able to craft all stats). Some parts of it I'm unsure. I wrote celestial gear should be account bound, but I could imagine it being tradeable, but crafting a piece would need to have a long cool down to make them stay valuable (like one character can only craft a single piece each week). This would also probably make it better economy wise but I could see it being an achievement so craft them yourself and not just buy them off someone else. I feel like it is sufficiently hard to obtain the pieces as not only they are expensive, but mastering all the base recipes is quite a task. And those uninterested should still enjoy the benefits of the Favor system as it offers new rewards for crafters. Also Production Master how awesome would they be at Crafting Events?

I have nothing really specific to add, other than I like where your head's at. I would fully support any strides made to remove the RNG component.
I was thinking about something like creation of an additional crafting 'pathway' to dictate gear stats- FOR THOSE WITH A CRAFTING SPECIALTY.
As it is now, "rolling the dice" on a piece of equipment to get some decent stats may take an entire stack (or more) of cloth, leather or ingots; just through trial and error. It still almost always ends up as 'good enough', but not ideal (all great stats but onslaught rune on priest gear)
It would be excellent if master crafters could effectively custom craft items, even if it was very expensive and involved- e.g. Once a recipe is 5-starred, there is an option to use a large amount of materials, and maybe some special materials (gems?) to craft a "custom" piece of gear where it is rare (with a chance at epic) but you get to choose the stats and runes, but not the values of those.
For example:
craft 30 'boots' to get to 5-star; then a separate button is presented to make a pair that requires more materials, (something like 5x the mats?), plus [some special material] like a diamond, but in return you get to choose the stats. Or just keep banging out RNG gear with the usual 'craft' button.
If you used the 'custom' button'- once the crafting progress bar is complete a drop-down menu opens to choose each base stat (int, brut, expertise, etc), and some number of runes (savagery, mastery, will).
You don't get to choose if it rolls rare or epic, and you don't get to specify the armor value (or weapon dmg). It will still be subjected to the RNG. Maybe those boots have 900 armor, maybe they have 908.

The whole point is- I can whip up a quick cheap piece of green or blue gear to get me through, or I can take my time and actually make a "nice" piece of gear for myself or others.

Edit: Right now, I feel like crafting specs (esp armor and weapon) are kinda useless, other than to enhance gear without binding it.
It would *REALLY* enhance the 'Villager' aspect of the game to be able to fulfill specific orders.
As an armor spec, It would make crafting feel so much more satisfying to get mail or whisper asking for a custom piece of gear.
Something like:
Hi, can you make me a pair of lvl 71 holy boots with bonus armor, int, and expertise, and savagery, will and spell power runes? let m know what the cost is!

Potion and Prep master stays the same. Armor/Weapon specialization will have 30% per craft to make it Epic rarity at 5 stars. They also receive +25% RNG limitation for their items in their specialization.
I'm not sure I understand your suggestions, for Armor/Weapon specs. At 5 stars, ALL our crafted items are Epics with a chance for natural Legendaries. So, maybe you meant to give us an increased chance for natural Legendaries? Also, does "+25% RNG limitation" mean we'd add 25% chance to receive chosen stats, to the chart above?

If so, I like those suggestions. 🤩👍

I'd also like to see Potion specs changed to Chef specs and given the chance to craft extra edibles, as well as pots. Would be nice for Prep specs to be able to craft special preps for Necklaces, Rings, Trinkets and Tokens... as well as more options for gear... maybe players could choose between 2 types of preps, for each piece of gear? Giving us even more build variety.

I could see it being an achievement so craft them yourself and not just buy them off someone else.
I feel that if your Celestial gear ideas are implemented, gear should be account bound. Something players must earn and craft for themselves. Otherwise, I think it would be too easy to buy from others and we'd soon have servers full of maxed players. 😬

Otherwise I really like all your ideas! 👏🤩👍

Only Mythic recipes are epic at 5 stars, the standard recipes are guaranteed rare with a low chance to be epic with the proper crafting specialization. And yes the 25% would be added to the base 50% at 5 stars, making it 75%.

Yes I can see it being implemented as such, I can really appreciate when you put in effort in something and you get rewarded for it, without any credit card swiping.

Oops, it's been a while since I crafted low-level gear and I forgot. 😅
